Every Step Counts Challenge
Mates in Mind are proud to launch the fundraising challenge ‘Every Step Counts’ to both encourage individual’s to get moving in a way which works for them, while raising vital funds which will help the charity to continue to support workplaces across the UK.
The link between exercise and the benefits to mental health is firmly established, from elevating stress and anxiety, too improved sleep, being physically active can assist individual’s mental health management during difficult times. This is now especially important as the world continues to navigate the challenges posed by COVID-19 and the changes it has brought, and continues to bring, to each of our lives.
Together in virtual teams or as an individual, the challenge will be to achieve a sponsored 100 miles in steps, within two weeks. Be this around the flat or as part of a daily exercise routine, every step will count.
To join the Mates in Mind, Every Step Counts challenge, there are three simple steps:
1) Form your team (max of five people), or submit yourself as an individual. To submit your team, simply fill out the form and submit to: firstname.lastname@example.org
2) Choose a leader in your team, who will collate the daily steps from each member
3) Start fundraising!
After the challenge has concluded we will announce the winners across our social channels and to our supporters. Together, we can get moving and help open up this vital conversation around mental health.
How to record your steps
As an individual or in teams, the aim will be to reach 100miles, in steps, within the challenge week!
There are a number of ways you can do this, but we recommend either of the below options:
- Using your smart phone health app to record your daily steps/miles
Most smart phones will have an inbuilt app which tracks health related items, including your steps. For Apple, this is the 'Health' app and for Android devices, this is 'Google fit'. Both options will allow you to track your daily/weekly steps to share within your team.
- Using a Fitbit or similar technology
Your Fitbit or similar device will use a accelerometer to count how many steps you take each day, converting recorded motion into reviewable data. This can then be shared with your team.
If you can't leave your home, no problem!
If you are still leaving your house to exercise during the day, you can still complete things like a step-challenge, complete a certain number of miles during a week etc.
Or, if you’re not leaving your home but would like to take on a physical challenge, set yourself personal goals for getting in steps around your house or flat. Every step you take will be contributing to the overall goal, because every step counts.
How to submit your steps
Together in your teams you will need to keep a note of your daily steps. We recommend a group chat or email to co-ordinate. In your teams you will need to appoint a leader, to organise your team each day and add each members daily steps to the spread sheet!
At the conclusion of the challenge, you can send your steps sheet across too: email@example.com
