Trigger Warning: this page includes mention of suicide.
At Mates in Mind, we know that good health means being mentally and physically well, and we advocate for everyone seeking help when they need it. Therefore, this November (or as some now know it better, Movember) we are focusing on the mental health part of Men’s Health Awareness Month.
As part of this campaign, we are encouraging everyone in our network to raise awareness, start conversations and signpost support if needed, within their own organisations and across the businesses they work with. Together, we can normalise conversations about mental health, end the stigma that surrounds it and enable people to access support when they need it.
Please remember, that whilst this is an important awareness date, building positive mental health in and through work should be something we focus on every day of the year. Find out how we can work with your organisation to do this:

Why is Men's Health Awareness Month important?
The following shocking statistics emphasise why this campaign is so important:
- One man in five dies before the age of 65 (Men’s Health Forum).
- Four in five suicides are by men, with suicide the biggest cause of death for men under 35 (UK Parliament).
- According to the BUPA Wellbeing Index:
- '43% of working British men are urging their employers to provide greater mental health support.
- 50% of men have struggled with mental health difficulties at some point, yet fewer than half have sought medical advice.
- 37% of UK men admit actively hiding their mental health issues from their partners.
- 30% of men surveyed said they didn’t know where to turn for advice or support.
- 65% of employees recognise that stigma around men’s mental health remains strong.’
