Organisational Wellbeing Assessment and Certification

Understand where your organisation stands on its mental health journey - and what to do next.

Every Mates in Mind Member has access to our annual Organisational Wellbeing Assessment and certification process.

The assessment provides an honest picture of your organisation’s current position on workplace mental health. It measures your progress against our 10 Core Standards and the Joint Code of Practice 5 Hazard Clusters, benchmarks your results against other assessed organisations and identifies practical priorities for improvement.

After the assessment, your organisation can earn Mates in Mind Bronze, Silver, or Gold certification.

Who can access wellbeing assessment and certification?

Assessment and certification are available to all Mates in Mind Members.

The assessment is not about passing a test or presenting your organisation as perfect. Its purpose is to establish where you are now, recognise the effectiveness of actions already taken and identify where to focus so that further investment will have the greatest impact.

Your yearly update assessment enables you to track progress made, evidence impact and identify emerging risk, as well as maintain your certification and celebrate success!

How it works

  1. Complete your assessment: Your organisation completes the Mates in Mind Organisational Wellbeing Assessment, considering its current policies, practices and workplace culture.

  2. Understand your results: We assess your position across our 10 Core Standards and against the JCoP 5 Hazard Clusters, comparing your results with anonymised data from comparable organisations. You receive a benchmarked report highlighting your areas of strength, vulnerability gaps, and priority for action.

  3. Receive your certification: Based on your assessment outcome, your organisation is awarded Bronze, Silver or Gold Mates in Mind certification. You receive a certificate and digital certification badge to recognise and communicate your achievement.

  4. Continue to improve: Your results provide the foundation for a practical improvement plan. Mates in Mind will support you in identifying risk, addressing priorities, strengthening your approach and preparing for annual reassessment.

Certification levels

Certification recognises your organisation’s current stage of maturity. It is designed to encourage meaningful progress and allow you to communicate your achievements publicly.

Bronze - Building strong foundations

Bronze recognises that your organisation has begun to establish a structured approach to workplace mental health.

Your organisation has taken positive steps and has some important foundations in place. The assessment identifies where greater consistency, ownership or implementation would strengthen your approach.

Bronze provides recognition of your progress and a clear route towards Silver.

Silver - Embedding good practice

Silver recognises meaningful progress in establishing and applying a consistent approach to workplace mental health.

Your organisation has moved beyond initial foundations and can demonstrate that good practice is becoming established across important areas.

The assessment helps you identify what is needed to embed this work more consistently and progress towards Gold.

Gold - Demonstrating a mature and embedded approach

Gold recognises an established, organisation-wide approach to creating and sustaining positive mental health at work.

Your organisation can demonstrate that workplace mental health is supported through leadership, policies, management practice, employee engagement and ongoing monitoring.

Gold recognises a mature approach, but it is not the end of the journey.

Progress does not stop at Gold

Workplaces, workforces and mental health risks continue to change. Even organisations achieving Gold need to review their approach, respond to emerging risk and demonstrate that good practice remains embedded.

Annual reassessment helps Gold-certified organisations to:

  • Maintain their certification.

  • Identify new risks and priorities.

  • Demonstrate continued improvement.

  • Measure progress across the 10 Core Standards.

  • Evidence adoption of the JCoP (Construction).

  • Share learning and help advance good practice.

Certification therefore reflects an active and continuing commitment, not a one-off achievement.

What your organisation receives

As part of the assessment and certification process, your organisation receives:

  • An assessment of its performance across the 10 Core Standards.

  • Benchmarking against other assessed organisations.

  • A clear summary of strengths and development priorities.

  • Practical, prioritised recommendations.

  • Bronze, Silver or Gold certification.

  • A Mates in Mind certificate and digital certification badge.

  • Annual reassessment to measure progress.

  • Ongoing guidance and support from Mates in Mind.

Certification remains current through annual reassessment and may only be promoted in accordance with the Mates in Mind certification terms and conditions.

Supporting construction organisations

For construction organisations, the assessment also reflects relevant expectations within the Mental Health in Construction Joint Code of Practice (JCoP), helping Members understand their readiness and identify priorities for action.

Mates in Mind certification is not JCoP certification or formal accreditation. It provides structured recognition of your organisation’s workplace mental health maturity and continuing improvement.
